Doggies on the Catwalk

Try to imagine being in a relationship where you are the sole provider for the one you love. Because of an illness, age or disability you are suddenly no longer able to provide the basic needs to your loved one such as food, medical care or possibly face having your love taken from you because these needs aren’t being met. This heart wrenching scenario happens for many people who are elderly, disabled or ill more often than you think. When your companion and love is your pet, not being able to care for them because of reasons out of your control, the pain and guilt can be devastating. For some in this situation there is a life line out there to help here in Atlanta.

Let me introduce you to P.A.L.S. of Atlanta: Pets Are Loving Support.

P.A.L.S. is an Atlanta-based Non Profit 501 (C) 3 Organization that loves animals.

We provide pet-care including free food and basic veterinary care, and support to the companion pets of senior citizens as well as critically ill and disabled Atlantans.

P.A.L.S. is a volunteer-based organization. P.A.L.S. currently does not receive any federal or state funding and relies on donations from area businesses and private donations.

Last Friday, May 18th, I attended Doggies on the Catwalk, P.A.L.S. annual canine couture inspired fashion gala to benefit P.A.L.S efforts to help “a friend keep a friend” at Room & Board in Atlanta.

The event was emcee’d by B98.5 FM’s Vikki Locke and fashion blogger extraordinaire Vincent Martinez. You can check out Vincent’s blog fashionado for some amazing pictures from the event.

The event featured celebrity models with their wonderful canine companions such as Cynthia Bailey of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” (Bravo was filming the event for an upcoming episode) and Monica Pearson as well as many other local celebrities. Some of the designer fashions represented for the gala were: Bill Hallman, Jovani, Shoshanna, Diane Von Furstenberg and Highbrow Hound.

Check out the highlight reel attached to this article to see all the fun and excitement. All the proceeds went to P.A.L.S. The benefit raised 3 times the amount this year compared to previous years. Even if you were not able to attend the event, you can still donate your time, money or resources to this wonderful cause! Just go to their website for details.
